Agreed. My waiter at Corner Bakery Sunday morning was a male in his ealry seventies and this morning the UPS delivery person at my office was a male in his sixties. Working longer and spending less is the rule of the day.

Historically, taking social security benefits early as possible has been the popular choice. But going forward, it will be wise for retirees and baby boomers alike to make smarter "long term" choices for their money.

Great plan, but I have yet to meet a client that does not want to immediatly take their Social Security Benefit at age 62. People seem to be very stubborn and not logical about their social security benefits. They want it as soon as possible ! I think it may have something to do with people in general not trusting the finances of the U.S. government.

That's all well and good. The logic is both fundamental and impeccable. But it also assumes that one is able to remain employed until age 70. With age bias kicking in as early as the 40's these days, a shaky assumption, at best.

The expense can cost much more than just "interest" on the debt. Seeking counseling and making wise choices is key.

Borrowing to get an education has become the accepted norm. I would not argue for a second that an education is not worth the cost, but I would argue that the cost often has a lasting impact, and we advisers could offer some preventative medicine.

Thanks for the advice on credit repair on this excellent blog. What I would offer as advice to people is always to give up this mentality they can buy at this point and fork out later. Like a society most people tend to try this for many factors. This includes holidays, furniture, along with items we really want to have. However, you should separate the wants from the needs. While you're working to improve your credit rating score you really have to make some trade-offs. For example you'll be able to shop online to save money or you can check out second hand stores instead of high priced department stores for clothing.
